Featured in Web Designer magazine

Posted on 25 April 08, in ,

Last night I received a comment saying that I'm featured in the latest issue (143) of Web Designer magazine. I've never been featured in a printed magazine, so you can imagine I was thrilled!

What I'd expect was a small mention, maybe even a tiny screenshot along with an article on one subject or another, but when I got my hands on the magazine this morning I found out there was a 2 page spread dedicated to my site!! Hooray!! :)

Posted on 24 April 08, in ,

This is part 2 in a series of 3 titled Make it worn, in which I'm talking about designing a website with a worn look. This second part covers the stage of making things worn.

Once again, all of the materials I use are available for download, you'll find them in a zip at the bottom of this article.

Make it worn – part 1: preperation

Posted on 21 April 08, in ,

This is part 1 in a series of 3 titled Make it worn, in which I'm talking about desiging a website with a worn look. This first part covers the stage of preparation I take before entering the actual design phase.

I'm designing a fictional website throughout these articles to show how I go about several stages and techniques. All of the materials I use are available for download, including the final page design and all in between steps. You may use these to experiment, edit, or whatever else you want to do with them, as long as it is non-commercial. On the bottom of each article will be a link to download the corresponding materials. The final article will contain a zip with everything in it.

Make it worn

One of the questions I get most often is how I did the worn textures on my website. My answer? Watch my website, I’ll cover the subject there soon. And soon starts today!

While the previous series isn’t even completed, I’m announcing my second: “make it worn”. In a series of three 3 articles I will guide you through the process of designing a worn looking website. I’ll cover the preparation of wireframes and resources, the process of adding texture and detail, and finally the blending of all elements in order to create a unified whole.
