offlife
Posted on 22 June 08, in personal, miscellaneous
It’s a been while since I’ve posted. As much as I’d like to apoligize, I’m not sorry at all :).
Since last fall I’ve spend so much time behind computer screens that it was time to cut back for a bit and experience offlife (life offline, not sure if the term exists. If it doesn’t, I hereby claim it’s invention!) for a while.
I hadn’t quite planned to take time off from personal design projects, blogging and being online in general. After quite a busy period, work and launching this site, however, I noticed I lost my focus a bit. Then spring came, my girlfriend returned home after a 2 month trip abroad, and I started to focus more on enjoying things I love besides design and the web: nature, photography, cooking, dining, movies, theatre, taking long walks, and so on.
As much fun as I had during the past months, I start to miss working on personal projects, blogging etc! So here I am again, with the intention to balance the amount of time I spend on my passions and interests better so that instead of fully focusing on one thing for a few months, than a few months on the other, I can do a bit of everything all the time :).
I still owe you the final part of the series Make it worn. Most of that was done, I’ll try and wrap that up asap for those of you interested.

Jun 29, 09:06 PMI totally know where you’re coming from when you say you focus on one thing for a few months then another thing and so forth. I’m very much the same with the extremist side of me always wanting to fully dedicate myself to one thing or the other with no half measures. It’s always hard to get a good balance but probably beneficial in the long run. :)
I’ve not really done a lot on grunge style design but I’m a huge fan and have started going through a few tutorials to start getting to grips with it. This is a superb tutorial so far and I’m very much looking forward to the grande finale. I’m glad you incorporated it into a design process so you can not only see how to create the effects but how to work them into designs with a focus on the content first. Something which is often overlooked.
Glad you’re back from your time offline Bart-Jan and keep up the good work on the tutorials and blog posts!

Aug 4, 04:11 PMAs you can see the number of comments is dwindling, but don’t let that stop you from doing the things you want to do. I’m looking forward to the 3rd ‘‘Make it Worn’‘ article. I’m in the process of making a site myself but only with a metal ‘worn’ look. I am
howevernot nearly as artistic as you are, or so it seems. I’ve always concentrated on the code behind it all.B.t.w; I won’t post my personal details online for the world to see.
